George Pickering

Economic & Social History (2020 cohort)

My research aims to assess whether and to what extent bond yield curve inversions preceded British financial crises in the 19th century, and what such information can tell us about the developing powers and approaches of the Bank of England during that century.

I completed my BSc in Economic History at the London School of Economics, where I received the Golden Bottle Trust Essay Prize in 2017. I was then fortunate to receive a Lincoln College Crewe Graduate Scholarship to read for an MSc in Economic and Social History at the University of Oxford. I have twice been a Research Fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute. My research interests include monetary theory and the history of economic epistemology and method.
