My research focuses on historical and contemporary humanitarian responses to refugee ‘crises’. My DPhil thesis explores the ways in which humanitarian actors have responded to refugee movement at sea and the flight of ‘boat people’ during the 20th and 21st centuries. I ask what challenges arise when assisting refugees at sea: how does the maritime context shape the provision of relief?

I studied for a BA in History at Jesus College, Oxford before receiving an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from the Refugee Studies Centre, also in Oxford. I have been a visiting researcher at Yale University, and also volunteer with the Sea-Watch Legal Aid Fund.
