Sociology (2020 cohort)

Kasimir’s research centres around Volunteering and civic engagement. He is investigating which individual and structural factors foster engagement in voluntary work and how voluntary workers and communities may benefit from performing voluntary activities in civil society in various terms. Moreover, he is studying how volunteering might reduce or reinforce social inequalities. Relying on large-scale panel data from Western European countries, his research employs rigorous statistical methods for causal inference.            

Before starting his DPHIL in Sociology at Nuffield College in Oxford, Kasimir graduated from the University of Cologne in Germany with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Sciences and Sociology, respectively. During this time, he visited the universities of Groningen (Netherlands) and Oxford for one semester each. He told several revision classes for introductory statistics and prepared online assessments for them. Furthermore, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Sociology and Social Psychology at the University of Cologne.
