What is this session about?
This introductory session, tailored to those new to policy engagement, is designed to help doctoral students in social sciences develop their motivation for impact into a structured understanding of how to engage with the public policy world. You will benefit from a combination of presentations, short exercises, and opportunities to discuss with peers your motivations, plans, and challenges when it comes to engaging with policymakers and the public policy world. GUDTP students who have recently completed a placement in public policy will be there to discuss how this professional development opportunity shaped the way they currently think about their research and career.
Learning outcomes
- A better understanding of the differences between policy influence, impact, and engagement.
- Enhanced understanding of the policy process at different levels of government (local, regional, national and international)
- Increased awareness of practical tools and strategies to create a policy engagement plan
- Guidance on how to access further support available to you through the Oxford Policy Engagement Network
